Hans Wieland (philologist)

Hans Wieland (born January 20, 1924 in Villingen ; † October 13, 2010 in Munich ) was a German classical philologist .

Hans Wieland studied Classical Philology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau , where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . On February 1, he became a research assistant at the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae in Munich , where he spent his entire subsequent career. On October 1, 1954, he was appointed editor. In 1988 he received the silver medal Bene merenti of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences for his services . Wieland retired on January 31, 1990. He remained connected to the thesaurus until the end of his life as an article writer, flag reader and individual member of the International Thesaurus Commission (from 1991).

In addition to Latin lexicography and linguistics, Wieland also studied the writings of Johannes Kepler . He published his Elegy on the Death of Tycho Brahe (1982) and was a member of the Kepler Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
