life and work

After graduating from high school, which he passed in 1966, Zengeler studied law , psychology and Japanese studies at the universities of Tübingen and Freiburg for several semesters .

In 1969 he began to write literary texts. Encouraged by Martin Walser's comment that his language extends far beyond amateur status, Zengeler first wrote a series of poems on paintings , which were published in the literary magazine die horen , among others . Then satirical texts emerged, which thematized the excesses of the student movement and were later processed in the novel Dream Dancer . From the mid-1970s he no longer wrote any poetry; Zengeler turned now exclusively to prose and wrote novels, short stories, satires and radio plays.

After he made his debut in 1979 in the small publishing house éditions trèves in Trier with the novel Denial of Orders , the second single title appeared - Schrott . A report - 1983 in Suhrkamp Verlag.

The majority of Zengerle's books were published by the dahlemer Verlagsanstalt , according to Randgeher in 2019 . Odd stories , of which Imre Török says: Zengeler's characters walk along the collapsing edges of civilization. Observe the activities very closely, sarcastically with contemptuous irony, and we experience almost Kafkaesque incidents, whether in the lying literature business or in human industrial accidents in life .

Hans Zengeler lives in Sandhausen .
