Hans Ziegler (born June 15, 1920 in Stuttgart ; † January 16, 2017 ) was a German football player and athlete .

Athletic career

In his youth, Hans Ziegler was an athlete with the Stuttgarter Kickers . In 1937 he became the Württemberg junior champion in the 100-meter run . A year later he was able to win two further Wuerttemberg junior championships with his achievements in the long and triple jump . In the seniors he was Württemberg champion in the long jump in 1942 and in the triple jump in 1943.

In addition to his career as a track and field athlete, Ziegler was also active as a footballer for the Kickers. As a center forward he played in the 1943/44 season in the Gauliga Württemberg , the top division of the country at the time. There he scored the winning goal in the semifinals for the Gaupokal against arch rivals VfB Stuttgart in extra time in front of 30,000 spectators.

Four years later, the Stuttgart native was also able to become Württemberg champion in football with Sportvg Feuerbach by taking 1st place in the Württemberg regional league.

In 1949, Ziegler had to end his sporting career after a knee joint fracture while playing soccer.

Professional background

Ziegler attended elementary school and high school in Feuerbach . After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship at Breuninger to become a men's tailor . At the age of 17 he won the professional competition in Cologne and was later awarded for Germany's best apprentice piece in the tailoring trade.

After the war and Soviet imprisonment, Ziegler rebuilt his destroyed parental home and opened a men's clothing store there in the Feuerbach district of Stuttgart in 1953. He later bought a piece of land and continued to run his shop there, which he gave up in 1984 after a total sale.

Ziegler had a son and was married twice.
