Hansjörg Mühlbacher (born January 17, 1969 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) is a former German natural track luge . The SC Riessersee athlete started in the World Cup both in the single-seater, where he was twice in the top 20, and in the double-seater. For two years he formed a two-seater couple with Björn Kierspel , who finished among the top ten in nine World Cup races, achieved eighth place as the best result in the overall World Cup and became German champion in 2004.
In the 1998/1999 and 1999/2000 seasons , Mühlbacher took part in two single-seater World Cup races and achieved 20th place as the best results. In the overall ranking he finished 30th and 33rd respectively. At the 2000 World Championships in Olang , he finished 30. In the next two years Mühlbacher did not take part in any races, only in the 2002/2003 season he returned to the World Cup. Until the end of the 2003/2004 season he and Björn Kierspel formed the only German two-seater pair in the World Cup at that time. In the winter of 2002/2003 they achieved three ninth places and a tenth place in the first four races, but were no longer able to take part in the last two World Cup races and the World Championship due to Björn Kierspel's fibula fracture . They finished tenth in the overall World Cup. In the next winter, Kierspel / Mühlbacher finished in the top ten in five World Cup races and achieved their best combined result with sixth place in Grande Prairie . In the overall World Cup they reached eighth place and at the 2004 European Championships in Hüttau they were 14th. Hansjörg Mühlbacher also took part in three single-seater World Cup races during these two years, in which he achieved placements around 25th place. After 2004 he did not contest any more races.
