Harald Asplund

Harald Asplund (born March 15, 1831 in Härnösand , † October 13, 1904 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish engineer .

Life

Asplund began studying at Chalmers Technical University in Gothenburg in 1846 , which he finished in 1849.

He then became a technical draftsman and designer at Munktells Mekaniska Verkstad in Eskilstuna , where he worked until 1857. He was involved in the development of the first steam locomotive built in Sweden , which was ordered by the railroad entrepreneur Fredrik Sundler . The locomotive was called Förstlingen and built in Eskilstuna in 1853. In 1857 Asplund moved to Kristinehamn , where he was managing director of Kristinehamns Mekaniska Verkstad from 1860 to 1882 .

In the locomotive workshop there, he made significant improvements to the bogies and radial axles.

He was in Stockholm in 1873 a member of the committee for the dissolution of the Köping – Hults Järnväg and from 1893 to 1895 a member of the Järnvägskommittén ( German  railway committee ).

Asplund was married to Alma Charlotte Asplund (nee Lennmark, born August 29, 1844) since June 5, 1867 and had three children. Her son Arthur Harald Asplund (born June 22, 1870) was employed by Väg- och vattenbyggnadskåren. Her daughters were Alma Mathilda Louise, married Wolffram (born March 17, 1872) and Clary Charlotte, married Morales (born May 31, 1876), who was a concert singer and singing teacher.

His grave is on the Norra begravningsplatsen ( German  north cemetery ) in Solna .

Award

Harald Asplung was a knight of the royal Wasa order .
