Harald Fichtner (born October 18, 1965 in Hof (Saale) ) is a German politician ( CSU ). From May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2020, he was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Hof.

After graduating from the Schiller-Gymnasium Hof in 1985, he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk in the textile industry. He then studied law and political science at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg and the University of Bayreuth . He completed his studies with a doctorate to become a Dr. jur. from. From 1996 to 2006 he worked as a lawyer in his hometown of Hof.

In 2000 he ran for the first time as a CSU candidate for mayor election in Hof. He was only barely defeated by the incumbent Dieter Döhla . In March 2006 he ran again as a CSU candidate for election. This time he won with 61.4% of the vote. Since 2006 he has been chairman of the regional planning association for Upper Franconia and a member of the board of the Bavarian Association of Cities. He is also chairman of the CSU district association Hof-Stadt and the Stadtmarketingverein eV
On March 11, 2012, he was re-elected to 2020 with 56.36% of the votes in the first ballot for the eight-year legislative period.

Fichtner's political focus as Lord Mayor was on the management of demographic change, the revitalization of the city center and extensive renovation projects in the core city and the schools. On March 29, 2020, Fichtner was voted out of office with 45.2% of the votes in the runoff election after 14 years in office.
