Harald Groth

Harald Groth (born April 14, 1943 in Uslar ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

biography

education and profession

Groth attended elementary school in Uslar and then began an apprenticeship in a metallurgical plant. Via the second educational path, he began studying social work at the University of Düsseldorf and the University of Bremen . He was employed as a social worker and later became a probation officer. Again he studied educational sciences at the University of Oldenburg and was then a consultant at the workers' welfare in the Weser-Ems district association until 1986.

Harald Groth received his doctorate from the University of Bremen in 2005 with a thesis on "Securing the life risk of long-term care: Reforms and reform needs of statutory long-term care insurance".

politics

It had been unionized since 1957. He was initially a member of IG Metall , but then switched to that of the ÖTV trade union . In 1965 Groth became a member of the SPD. He was also chairman of the workers' welfare organization in the Delmenhorst district association and chairman of the Delmenhorster Home Foundation. Groth was also a member of the supervisory board of the non-profit settlement construction company in Delmenhorst.

Public offices

In 1972 Groth was first councilor of the city of Delmenhorst . Between 1972 and 1974 he was elected mayor and between 1974 and 1976 mayor and ultimately from 1976 to 1990 alderman of the city of Delmenhorst. He was chairman of the finance committee in the council as well as financial policy spokesman for the SPD city council group. Because of the so-called blue paper affair, he resigned as mayor. In the case of a secret trial vote on the budget, tracing paper was placed under the voting slip to identify deviants. The violation of Art. 38 GG otherwise had no consequences.

Groth was elected for the first time in the 11th electoral term as a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament on June 21, 1986. He was a member of this until the end of the 14th electoral term in 2003. Groth is chairman of the AWO district association Weser-Ems.
