Harald Mau

Harald Mau (born March 1, 1941 in Vienna ) is a German pediatric surgeon and professor emeritus at the Charité .

Life

After graduating from high school in Berlin, Mau studied medicine at the Humboldt University from 1958 to 1964 . After obtaining his doctorate A (1965), he was trained in pediatric, cardiac and thoracic surgery at the municipal clinic in Berlin-Buch and at the central clinic in Bad Berka . In 1974 he became a specialist in pediatric surgery and moved to the East Berlin Charité. There he built up the pediatric surgery department, whose official head he became in 1983. After obtaining his doctorate B (habilitation), he received the Venia legendi in 1981 . In 1984 he was appointed full professor and in 1989 clinic director. From May 30, 1990 to 1995 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty. In 2009 he retired at the age of 68.

In 1989 he was one of the founders of the Virchow Association, the first independent association of doctors and dentists in the German Democratic Republic . In autumn 1990 the Virchow-Bund and the West German Association of Resident Doctors in Germany merged to form the NAV-Virchow-Bund . Mau has headed the Berlin / Brandenburg regional group since 1993. From 1991 to 1994 he sat on the federal executive board, was an assessor from 1998 to 2006 and from 1994 to 1998 deputy federal chairman. In 2010 he received the Kaspar Roos Medal .

In 1990 he was elected to the delegates' assembly of the Berlin Medical Association.
