Harald Rost

Harald Rost (born November 26, 1933 in Poznań ) is a former German economic functionary and politician ( SED ). From 1967 to 1986 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

Rost, the son of a farmer, became a member of the Free German Youth (FDJ) in 1949 (until 1961). He attended secondary school in Halle (Saale) , passed his matriculation examination in 1952 in all scientific subjects with the grade "very good" and was awarded the Lessing Medal in October 1952. Rost studied economics from 1952 to 1956 at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) with a degree in economics. During this time he joined the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) in 1955 . In 1956/57 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Social Sciences at MLU Halle-Wittenberg. In 1957 he started working at VEB Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" , initially as an operations assistant, later as head of material supply, then as economic director, and finally from 1971 to 1980 as deputy general director for combine development.

In 1958 he joined the SED. From 1958 to 1960 he was a member of the basic organization management and from 1964 to 1980 a member of the SED district management of the Leuna-Werke. He graduated from the party college of the CPSU in Moscow . From 1967 to 1981, as a member of the SED parliamentary group, he was a member of the People's Chamber and a member of the committee for industry, construction and transport. From 1974 to 1980 he was a member of the Permanent Commission of the Council for Mutual Economic Aid (Comecon) for oil and gas. From 1976 to 1980 he was chairman of the social council of the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg . In 1980, Rost was appointed deputy chairman of the State Planning Commission (SPK) and was responsible for the planning system and electronic data processing. In December 1989 he and Walter Schmidt took over the leadership of the Economic Reform Working Group of the State Planning Commission of the GDR. In early January 1990 he was recalled from the State Planning Commission by the Modrow government .

After the reunification in the GDR he came under the Treuhand and was responsible for the municipal assets in Saxony-Anhalt .
