Harish Shankar

Harish Shankar (* 1984 in Malaysia ) is a Malaysian- German conductor .

Life

Harish Shankar was born in Malaysia. He first studied piano with Konstanze Eickhorst in Lübeck and later conducting with Eiji Oue in Hanover and in Weimar in the class of Gunter Kahlert . In 2011, before completing his master's degree, he directed the “El Sistema” youth orchestra project in Peru for a year .

From 2013 to 2016 Shankar directed the Harvestehuder Sinfonieorchester Hamburg and from 2014/2015 was also a “Junior Fellow in Conducting” at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester . In 2016/2017 he was Resident Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and then first Kapellmeister at the Theater Vorpommern in 2017/2018 .

In 2015 he was awarded third prize in the Jorma Panula conducting competition in Vaasa .

Shankar has been the first Kapellmeister of the Meininger Hofkapelle at the Meininger Staatstheater since 2019 .
