The Harvestehude Symphony Orchestra is an amateur orchestra in Hamburg .

history

The orchestra was founded in 1966 as a chamber orchestra under the name "Harvestehude Student Orchestra" by Christoph Prick at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , which is located in the Hamburg district of Harvestehude . It has developed into an institution in the field of amateur orchestras with symphonic ensembles in Hamburg. The orchestra is supported by a sponsoring association founded in 1993. The orchestra is a member of the Federal Association of German Lover Orchestras .

Members of the orchestra are mostly lay and semi-professional musicians, but also professional musicians.

program

The program mainly includes symphonic works from the 19th and 20th centuries, but also premieres and world premieres of works by young composers and film music in Hamburg . Concerts take place twice a year in the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg. The orchestra also supports performances by choirs and theater ensembles. The orchestra has performed works of great difficulty, such as symphonies by Gustav Mahler .
