Harold Keith Johnson Chair of Military History

The Harold Keith Johnson Chair of Military History is a scholar-in-residence program launched in 1978 in memory of General Harold Keith Johnson , Chief of Staff of the Army from 1964 to 1968 , at the US Army Military History Institute (USAMHI) in Carlisle , Pennsylvania was established. As early as 1972, an annual visiting professorship of the US Army Military History Research Collection (renamed USAMHI in 1977) was established as a direct precursor . This was first taken over by Theodore Ropp . In 2006 the company moved to the United States Army War College (USAWC), Carlisle Barracks . Today the chair reports to the Department of National Security and Strategy (DNSS) at USAWC. The aim was to integrate scientific military history into a military environment. This was made possible through the engagement of the most renowned American scientists in the field.
