City history
The town's origins go back to a Clark family who lived there in the 1730s. By 1800, two streets passed their property and so the family built a small convenience store called Clarks Corner. In 1856 a railway line was built in the neighborhood, which belonged to the Delaware Railway Line, the Pennsylvania Railroad Railway Company. Matthew J. Clark then sold part of his land piece by piece to new residents willing to invest, and so houses and shops were built for the surrounding farms. In 1859 the area, then still called Junction Station , was named Harrington and ten years later, in 1869, it was allowed to call itself a town. With the construction of the Junction and Breakwater railway line, the importance of Harrington consolidated and so in 1887 already 1,300 people lived in the village.
