Harry Brown (screenwriter)

Harry Brown (born April 30, 1917 in Portland , Maine , † November 2, 1986 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenplay and novelist .

Life

Harry Brown graduated from Harvard University .

He made his debut as a screenwriter in 1945 with the film The True Glory . His novel A Walk in the Sun was filmed in the same year under the title Landing in Salerno . The director took Lewis Milestone . He worked as a screenwriter for both the cinema and television until the 1960s. In 1966 his novel The Stars in Their Courses by Howard Hawks with actor John Wayne in the leading role was filmed under the title El Dorado .

In 1950 he was nominated for the first time for an Oscar for his screenplay for the film You Were Our Comrade . Two years later he was awarded the trophy in the Best Adapted Screenplay category for the film Ein Platz an der Sonne .
