Harry Gray (born April 1, 1905 in Brooklyn , New York City , † October 17, 1963 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American film producer and filmmaker, who for his two short films Champagne for Two (1947) and Samba Mania (1948) was nominated for an Oscar .

biography

Grey's first listed film work comes from the US published on January 18, 1936 Western The Oregon Trail , in which John Wayne played the lead role. Gray was in charge of the music department. In the same year he contributed the song Dreamy Valley to Joseph Kane's Western Guns and Guitars with Gene Autry in the lead role . For the 1936 fantasy film Undersea Kingdom , which was again directed by Joseph Kane together with B. Reeves Eason, Gray was again responsible for overseeing the music department. This was followed by work in another western with John Wayne, which received the German title Winde der Wildnis , original title Winds of the Wasteland , in which Gray was responsible for the background music. This was also the case in the other western The Old Corral by Joseph Kane, and again with Gene Autry.

In 1943, Gray worked again with Joseph Kane in a western in which Roy Rogers starred in the title role of King of the Cowboys . This time Gray appeared as the producer of the film. For his short film Champagne for Two , produced in 1947 , Gray was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Short Film” (2 film roles) in 1948 , but had to let Irving Allen and his film Climbing the Matterhorn take precedence . The following year he was again nominated for an Oscar with a short film, this time Samba Mania , in the same category, which, however, went to Walt Disney and his film The Seal Island . Grey's last listed work as a producer is the 1948 romantic short film Catalina Interlude starring Jimmy Dorsey , which features a lot of music.

Harry Gray died in 1963 at the age of 58. He remained unmarried throughout his life.
