Harry Lewis Woods

Harry Woods (born Harry Lewis Woods on May 5, 1889 in Cleveland , Ohio , † December 28, 1968 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Woods worked as a salesman prior to his film career. After his marriage to Helen Hookberry in 1911, the two moved to Akron , Ohio. Harry began filming for Hal Roach Studios in the 1920s . During his nearly 40-year film career, Woods appeared in nearly 250 films. Due to his impressive height of two meters, Woods was very often cast as a film villain, mostly in Westerns of the B-category . In larger film productions he often had to be content with only small supporting roles that were not mentioned in the credits. His beefy stature has also been used for comedic purposes in some films, for example Laurel and Hardy accidentally mess with the physically superior Woods in their comedy Die Klotzköpfe (1938). From the 1950s onwards, Woods also appeared in front of the camera for a number of television series, his last role in 1961 at the age of 72 as a guest actor in the western series Lawman .

Harry had three sons with Helen, of whom Harry Lewis Woods Jr. was also active as an actor under the pseudonym Craig Woods (1918-1974). Harry Lewis Woods remained married to Helen until his death and died of uremia in December 1968 at the age of 79 .
