The constant defeats of the German armed forces on all fronts, the invasion of the American armed forces in North Africa and Italy, and above all the persistent rumors of an imminent invasion of the American armed forces in France and the increase in the support of the Resistance by parachutists and larger arms deliveries reinforced the armed forces French resistance in its catchment area. In November 1944 Pulmer became head of the state police station in Nuremberg and in January 1945 KdS there. Shortly before the US Army liberated Nuremberg , Pulmer gave orders to shoot foreign forced laborers .
Then he went into hiding with a forged pay book and was later able to get an identity card in the name of Hans Petersen . Pulmer lived with his family under a false name in Bensheim and worked there as an employee. After he was reported in writing to the Central Office of the State Judicial Administration for the investigation of National Socialist crimes in 1965 , the investigations against him, which had been initiated for the first time in 1948, were resumed. Proceedings for falsification of civil status were discontinued in return for a fine of 150 DM . Pulmer was retired from 1969. Because of his activities during the Nazi era, proceedings began in 1974 at the Giessen Regional Court to investigate the offenses committed by members of the Zichenau state police station against Pulmer and other former Gestapo employees at this station. Pulmer left the proceedings on the first day of the trial because he was certified as incapable of standing. Pulmer died in Bensheim in 1978.
