Jochen Boehler
Jochen Böhler (born December 11, 1969 in Rheinfelden (Baden) ) is a German historian . His specialties are the military history of the Second World War , the German occupation of Poland 1939–1945 , research on perpetrators on the Holocaust and the final battles of the First World War in East Central Europe 1918–1923.
Life
From 1993 to 1999, Böhler studied Medieval and Modern History , Ethnology and Economics at the University of Cologne with a master’s degree . He did his doctorate in 2004 under Jost Dülffer at the University of Cologne on the subject of the start of the war of extermination. The Wehrmacht in Poland in 1939 . In 2006 the dissertation was published as a book and was included in the publication series of the Federal Agency for Political Education .
From 2000 to 2010 he was a research assistant at the German Historical Institute in Warsaw . There, Böhler's focus was on research area IV ( violence and foreign domination in the age of extremes ) and its subject was research on the subject of the armed forces and everyday occupation . Other areas of work were Third Reich , World War II , German occupation in Poland 1939–1945 , Nazi crimes and perpetrator research .
Böhler also worked from 2006 to 2009 as a historical expert at the State Social Court of North Rhine-Westphalia on cases relating to the Ghetto Pension Act and was a co-signatory of the historians' appeal, which warned of "worrying undesirable developments" with regard to the interpretation of the law by German pension insurers. In 2008/2009 he was a consultant historian for the ARD production Der Überfall and in 2009/2010 he was a research associate at the Independent Commission of Historians dealing with the history of the Federal Foreign Office in the time of National Socialism and in the Federal Republic as well as co-author of the corresponding research volume The Office and the Past.
Since October 2010, Böhler has been a research assistant at the Imre Kertész College - Europe's East in the 20th Century , headed by Joachim von Puttkamer and Włodzimierz Borodziej . Historical experiences in comparison at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena . There, Böhler is responsible for the research area war, violence, repression in East Central Europe in the 20th century. His own research and publications in this area concentrate on violent conflicts in the region towards the end of the First World War and the recruitment of non-Germans into the Waffen SS. As part of his research on the First and Second World Wars in Europe, he is visiting professor at the Chaire d'Excellence of the Ax 5 of LabEx-EHNE, a joint project of the Universities of Paris-Sorbonne and Nantes.
