Jürgen Matthäus

Jürgen Matthäus (* 1959 in Dortmund ) is a German historian and head of the research department of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum .

After graduating from high school, Matthäus studied history and philosophy at the University of Bochum , which he completed in 1986 with the academic degree Magister artium . In 1992 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked as a Senior Historian at the Australian Department of Justice in Sydney .

He has been with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum since 1994, where he currently serves as director of the research department at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. directs. He held various visiting professorships in the USA, Australia and Germany. He belongs u. a. to the International Advisory Board of the Topography of Terror Foundation . Matthäus is the author, editor and editor of specialist publications on the subject of the Holocaust .
