Hartmut Schreiber
Hartmut Schreiber (born January 28, 1944 in Wittlich ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic who won an Olympic bronze medal with an eighth in 1972 .
Hartmut Schreiber started out as a cyclist, only in 1962 did he turn to rowing at the BSG unit in Dessau . After a second place at the GDR youth championships in 1963, he was delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin , where he trained under Elmar Antony . Schreiber was nominated as a substitute for the 1968 Olympic Games . In 1970 he won together with Manfred Schmorde and Reinhard Zahn at the GDR championships in two with helmsman . Before the World Championships in St. Catharines , Canada , Klaus-Dieter Ludwig replaced Reinhard Zahn as helmsman, Schreiber, Schmorde and Ludwig won the silver medal behind the Romanian boat. In 1971 Antony put together a new foursome with helmsman : Harold Dimke as batsman, Manfred Schneider , Manfred Schmorde, Hartmut Schreiber and helmsman Dietmar Schwarz not only won the GDR championships, but also took second place behind the West German at the European championships in Copenhagen Bull quad with Peter Berger on the beat.
In 1972, the entire foursome changed to eighth, which competed at the Olympic Games on the Oberschleißheim regatta course with the line-up of Hans-Joachim Borzym , Jörg Landvoigt , Harold Dimke, Manfred Schneider, Hartmut Schreiber, Manfred Schmorde, Bernd Landvoigt , Heinrich Mederow and Dietmar Schwarz . The eighth finished third behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the Netherlands, but won his semi-finals ahead of the boats from the Soviet Union and the United States. The New Zealanders won the final, with the GDR rowers rowing the bronze medal six hundredths of a second behind the United States.
Hartmut Schreiber is a skilled toolmaker and studied political science, he led the Berlin training center for swimmers and was after the turn taken by the Berlin criminal police.
