Heinrich Mederow

Heinrich Mederow (* 20th September 1945 in King Wusterhausen ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic , in 1972 an Olympic bronze medal with the rollercoaster won.

Mederow started for SG Dynamo Potsdam and trained with Johannes Wudanz. In 1970, he and Wolfgang Ribguth and the twins Jörg and Bernd Landvoigt came second in the GDR championships in the four-man championship .

In 1972, the Potsdam four without a helmsman and the four with a helmsman of the SC Dynamo Berlin were transformed into a new GDR eight, which at the Olympic Games on the Oberschleißheim regatta course was made up of Hans-Joachim Borzym , Jörg Landvoigt, Harold Dimke , Manfred Schneider , Hartmut Schreiber , Manfred Schmorde , Bernd Landvoigt, Heinrich Mederow and helmsman Dietmar Schwarz took over. The eighth finished third behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the Netherlands, but won his semi-finals ahead of the boats from the Soviet Union and the United States. The New Zealanders won the final, with the GDR rowers rowing the bronze medal six hundredths of a second behind the United States.

The following year Mederow won his only GDR championship title with an eight composed of five clubs. The trained diesel locomotive fitter worked as a rowing trainer at Dynamo Potsdam after studying at the DHfK . He has worked as a trainer since retiring as a police officer. After the rowing world championships in 2007 , which were not particularly successful for the German Rowing Association , Mederow also stepped in as an assistant to national trainer Jutta Lau .
