Hartono Dharsono

Hartono Rekso Dharsono (born June 10, 1925 in Pekalongan , Java ; † June 5, 1996 in Bandung , Jawa Barat ) was an Indonesian lieutenant general , diplomat and politician . From 1976 to 1978 he was Secretary General of ASEAN .

biography

After the establishment of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 1945, he began a military career in the Indonesian Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI)). First he was a group leader and platoon leader during the War of Independence from 1945 to 1949 and later commander of a battalion in the Siliwangi division in Jawa Barat.

After the sovereignty of the Netherlands was recognized on December 27, 1949, Dharsono became Chief of Staff of the Brigade in Siliwangi before being an officer in the General Staff of the Army between 1954 and 1956 . After serving as Deputy Governor of the Military Academy from 1956 to 1959, he was chief of staff in the Siliwangi Division for the first time between 1960 and 1962. Subsequently, he was initially military attaché of the embassy in the United Kingdom before he was again chief of staff of the Siliwangi division from 1964 to 1965. After serving as the 3rd assistant to the army commander, he was commander of the Siliwangi division between 1966 and 1969.

In 1969 he ended his military career and was then appointed ambassador to Thailand . During his activity as ambassador to Cambodia between 1972 and 1975, he was also chairman of the International Commission for the Control and Monitoring of the End of the Vietnam War from 1973 to 1975 .

From June 7, 1976 to February 18, 1978, he was the first general secretary of ASEAN . He was succeeded in this office by his compatriot Umarjadi Notowijono .

On November 8, 1984, Lieutenant General a. D. Dharsono arrested and in proceedings before the Central Court in Jakarta , to which began on 19 August 1985 on 8 June 1986 imprisonment convicted of ten years. After his appeal , his sentence was reduced to seven years. The Supreme Court subsequently upheld this verdict. The reason for his conviction were political and state-endangering crimes such as his participation in meetings in 1984 to plan and prepare the bombings on the Glodok shopping center and the major bank Bank Central Asia (BCA) in 1984. After serving five years in prison in Cipinang maximum security prison , he was arrested on September 16 Released in 1990 after being granted a pardon as part of the independence day amnesty on August 17, 1990.
