Hartwig Bambamius (theologian)

Hartwig Bambamius (born December 23, 1685 in Hamburg ; † January 19, 1742 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

Bambamius was born in Hamburg, attended the learned school of the Johanneum and from 1702 the academic high school in Hamburg. After his school education he went to the University of Wittenberg and studied theology . In 1706 he received his doctorate in Wittenberg under Johann Christoph Wolf (1683–1739) as a doctor of philosophy . On October 17, 1710 he was accepted as a candidate for the Hamburg Ministry . On November 14, 1723 he was elected preacher at the main church of Sankt Petri and was introduced to his office the following year. Bambamius is said to have been an immodest and scornful zealot who zealous above all against Pietists and Reformed people . He died of biliary fever at the age of 56.

Bambamius was the son of the Hamburg lawyer Johann Bambamius († 1699) and grandson of the senior secretary Hartwig Bambamius († 1688). He married Anna Dorothea Schluesselburg on May 24, 1729. The marriage remained childless.
