Harvey Weston

William Harvey Weston (born March 2, 1940 in London ) is a British jazz musician ( double bass , bass guitar ).

Weston began playing the double bass at the age of 16 and initially appeared in the skiffle band The Zephyrs and other local groups. As a professional musician he then belonged to Lennie Hastings ' band , with whom he toured Germany in 1959. In 1960 he worked with Roy Holiday, then in cabaret, with Selsey Bill (1962), in dance orchestras and accompanied the duo Nina & Frederik (1963). He was a member of Olav Vass' orchestra for four years, and between 1968 and 1974 he was a member of Alex Welsh's band . He was also active with Kathy Stobart / John Picard , then with Humphrey Lyttelton , Stan Greig's London Big Band and Ian Stewart's Rocket 88 . He also accompanied numerous American stars; in the 1980s he played mainly in the bands of Mick Pyne , Keith Smith and Pat Halcox , since the 1990s with Brian Priestley and in Digby Fairweather Half Dozen . In Germany he toured repeatedly with Pete York . He can also be heard on recordings by Sammy Price , Ian Wheeler , Bud Freeman and Wild Bill Davison .
