Hateful is an Italian brutal and technical death metal band from Modena that was founded in 1997.

history

The band was founded in 1997 by bassist, guitarist and singer Daniele Lupidi. With a few friends he started rehearsing the first songs. In 1998 there was a permanent cast and the first appearances were held. In addition to Lupidi, the group consisted of the singer Matteo Manfredini, the drummer Marcello Malagoli and the guitarists Marcello Magoni and Luca Fortini. After the first appearance, the band decided to record four songs with Magoni's equipment. Before the recordings, Malagoli left the group due to problems with the other members, whereupon he was replaced by Antonio Keller. Recordings began in the fall of 1999, but Lupidi was not satisfied with the sound quality that Magoni and his brother, who was a sound engineer, were able to achieve. As a result, Fortini, Lupidi and Keller went to another studio in May 2000 to record the demo After the Last Breath there. A few months later, Keller was replaced by Matteo Busi, whereupon more concerts followed. In 2002 the group threatened to disintegrate after Busi's departure due to a lack of motivation, which was later followed by Manfredini and Fortini. Then Marcello Malagoli returned to the cast and the band continued as a duo consisting of himself and Lupidi. In 2006 the band took part in a split release with Hellspawn and Impureza , which was released through Nihilistic Holocaust Productions . More than 3,000 copies of this set off. Then began the recordings for the debut album Coils of a Consumed Paradise . Meanwhile Matteo Manfredini returned to the band, this time as a guitarist, but left them shortly afterwards. He was replaced by Massimo Vezzani. Further concerts followed in 2009 while the recordings for the album were finished. The group then signed a record deal with The Spew Records , a sub-label of Punishment 18 Records . While Coils of a Consumed Paradise was released on Horrors of Yuggoth Records in 2010 , the 2013 album Epilogue of Masquerade was published on The Spew Records.

style

Ulrich Kreienbrink from voicesfromthedarkside.de wrote in his review of the split release with Hellspawn and Impureza that Hateful played fast Technical Death Metal on it. The vocals are breathy and in the middle range, while a little Thrash Metal influence can be heard in the songs . The songs are a bit more complicated and there is a change in time signature for the riffs . Furthermore, the songs are characterized by breaks , blastbeats and a wealth of detail and are recommended for fans of brutal and halfway demanding technical death metal and named Coroner and Immolation as references. Stefan Hofmann from bloodchamber.de also assigned Coils of a Consumed Paradise to Technical Death Metal. The songs are now and then a little more "tricky", but they always remained understandable. The songs would contain both fast blastbeat passages and slow passages reminiscent of Doom Metal . The group tries to make the songs as brutal as possible. Influences include bands like Morbid Angel , Deicide , Malevolent Creation , Cannibal Corpse , some Suffocation and Gorguts . Kunal Choksi of teethofthedivine.com noted in his review of Epilogue of Masquerade similarities with bands like Nefas and Immolation. The group play Technical Death Metal without overdoing the technical demands. The riffs are well worked out and the song structures are bizarre because they are unconventional. Choksi felt reminiscent of mid-career Monstrosity with Jason Avery as the singer, the technically demanding Death and some immolation, especially when playing the drums that sounded like Alex Hernandez played. In addition, the group mix modernity and brutality.
