Balliol House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Balliol family is a family of Scottish nobility of Norman descent. It first appeared at the beginning of the 12th century. The family comes from Bailleul-en-Vimeu in Picardy. In 1292, John Balliol was appointed King of Scots by King Edward I of England , who forced him to abdicate four years later. His son Edward Balliol usurped the throne in 1322, but was also able to hold on to 1336 with English help.
