history

The three-storey, originally plastered, three-axle residential and office building with a gable roof and a baroque gable was built for a merchant around 1770 in the Baroque era .
Several renovations took place: in 1881 shop windows replaced the two utluchten on the ground floor and since 1897 there was a passage to the courtyard.
The renovation of the house in 1923/24 in the reform style according to plans by Alfred Runge and Eduard Scotland for the newly founded, former Bremen-Amerika-Bank , the house bank of Kaffee HAG , led to significant changes: The houses Böttcherstraße 4/5 ( House of the Glockenspiel and House Atlantis ) were included, all storey heights changed, massive ceilings were created and when the facade division was preserved, the facade of the sandstone decoration was raised by 2.90 m and the window and door openings were renewed. The plaster was removed for a facade with bricks in the monastery format in the typical style of the time and that of the works of this architectural community in Böttcherstraße. From the baroque house only the sandstone decoration of the gable with vases, volutes and the crown with a segmental arch survived . The inner connection to the house of the carillon, with the former entrance to the bank, no longer exists. The Helmut Bastian shipping company was also based in the house from the 1950s to the 1980s .

Today (2018) the renovated building is used by a shop and offices. Next to it is the Radisson Blu Hotel .
