The Buxbaum house is a building in Darmstadt .

History and description

The private house of Darmstadt architect August Buxbaum was built in 1909/1910 and is a design by the planner himself. The Buxbaum house is one of the first in the garden suburb of Hohler Weg . According to Buxbaum's original plans, a residential park - with a few villas and large lots - was to be built on the garden suburb area. Today the area is called the composer's quarter.

In terms of style, the Buxbaum house is one of the traditionally designed townhouses.

Typical for this are:

The front is emphasized by elaborate figure decorations. The figure decoration is the work of the sculptor Heinrich Jobst .

Garden and plastic

There is a cast iron sculpture in the garden of the property ; the figure of a youth. An identical sculpture originally stood in Darmstadt's old indoor swimming pool . The old indoor swimming pool - also a design by Buxbaum - was badly damaged in the Second World War . The sculpture in Buxbaum's garden is a cast of the original; and a gift from the city of Darmstadt to the architect Buxbaum.

Monument protection

The Buxbaum house is a typical example of the traditionalist architectural style in Darmstadt. For architectural and city-historical reasons, the building is a cultural monument .
