Up close - The Method Hill (original title Wire in the Blood ) is a crime series by the English ITV . The films in the series are based on books by bestselling author Val McDermid . Between 2002 and 2008, six seasons appeared with a total of 24 episodes. Due to the high production costs of up to £ 750,000 per episode, the series was discontinued after the sixth season. The German version was first broadcast in 2003 on ZDF as part of the Sunday crime series.
Only the first two episodes Mermaids Singing (dt. Title: The Song of the Sirens ) and Shadows Rising ( closing panel ) are based directly on the two eponymous novels McDermids that other cases were all but Torment , of the substance of the fourth Tony Hill -Roman The Torment of Others (published in German-speaking countries under the title Deadly Words ) used as a template, written by various authors on the basis of the novels. The series is now also broadcast in the USA (on BBC America ), Australia ( ABC ) and in Southeast Asia ( Hallmark Channel ).
action
The individual cases deal with the psychologist Tony Hill , who, together with the police officer Detective Chief Inspector Carol Jordan, uncovered complicated serial murders, the solution of which requires the help of the renowned psychologist. At the beginning of the fourth season, Jordan surprisingly leaves Bradfield without informing Hill . Her successor Alex Fielding initially refuses to work with Hill , but later has to accept that she will not get anywhere without him.
The series takes place in the vicinity of the fictional town of Bradfield, which is said to be in West Yorkshire . In fact, the episodes were shot in and around Newcastle upon Tyne and Northumberland .
background
The meaning of the original title is controversial. Wire in the blood literally means wire in the blood . It is not a fixed English phrase, but a line of poetry by TS Eliot that leaves room for interpretation. Author McDermid sees it as a metaphor for an adrenaline rush. Leading actor Green, on the other hand, interprets the title to the effect that someone has a genetic predisposition for madness (in the sense that it is in his blood ).
