Hayden Stoeckel (born August 10, 1984 in Renmark ) is an Australian back swimmer .

Career

Hayden Stoeckel competes for the Norwood Swimming Club . He has competed internationally for Australia since the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria . There he made it to the finals over the 200 m back distance and was fifth there. He came even closer to his international breakthrough in 2007 at the World Championships in Melbourne . Although he was eliminated over 50 m and 200 m in the prelims and over 100 m back in the semi-finals, he was part of the 4x100m medley relay that won the gold medal. However, Stoeckel was only used in the preliminary runs, but not in the final.

The Australian qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing for the 100 m and 200 m back courses . On the shorter distance, Stoeckel was able to win the bronze medal behind the Americans Aaron Peirsol and Matt Grevers at the same time as the Russian Arkadi Vyattschanin . He also reached the final over 200 m and was sixth. At the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi , Stoeckel swam over 50 m back to second place.
