Hazard is a city with the status of City and at the same administrative center ( the county seat ) of Perry County in the US -amerikanischen State Kentucky with 5,477 inhabitants (2012).

Hazard is about 140 kilometers southeast of Lexington . The Kentucky River runs right through Hazard.

history

First settlers settled in 1795 in the village down the in 1884 after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry then Hazard was named. When a railway station opened in Hazard and huge coal deposits were discovered in the area, the place experienced a huge boom. In the 1920s, the population grew to over 7,000 people. The global economic crisis then meant a dramatic collapse in employment and the number of inhabitants fell again.

Today, as a county seat, Hazard is mainly active in administration and in medium-sized industrial and commercial operations.
