Heðin M. Klein

Heðin Magni Kristin Suni Klein (born February 28, 1950 in Tórshavn ) is a Faroese teacher, poet and translator, as well as a former politician of the socialist-separatist party Tjóðveldi .

Life

Although he was born in 1950 in the Faroese capital, Heðin M. Klein grew up in his parents' hometown, the village of Gjógv on the island of Eysturoy . When he was 15, he went back to Tórshavn, where he attended the secondary school in Hoydalar from 1965 to 1967 and was trained at the teachers' college (Føroya Læraraskúli) from 1967 to 1972 .

Teacher

After completing the teacher training college in the Faroese capital, he worked as a teacher at the school in Sandur from 1972 to 1983 , and from 1983 to 1998 and again since 2004 at the Eysturskúlin in Torshavn. From 1998 to 2004 he was managing director of the Faroese school book publisher (Føroya Skúlabókagrunnur) .

Politician

At the age of 24 he was elected to Løgting in 1974 as a representative of Sandoy , of which he was a member until 1980. From 1979 to 1981 Heðin M. Klein was Minister for Fisheries and Municipalities in Atli Dam's third government .

Hedin M. Klein has written numerous volumes of poetry since the late 1960s , some of which have been translated into several languages. He has also translated authors from other languages ​​into Faroese, including works by Nils-Aslak Valkeapää , Olav H. Hauge , Paul Celan and Gunnar Gunnarsson . From 1994 to 1997 and from 2006 to 2007 he was chairman of the Faroese Writers' Union (Rithøvundafelag Føroya) .

Hedin M. Klein was awarded the Faroese Literature Prize twice for his literary work . The first time in 1985 and the second time in 2016 for his 58-page poetry "Tað orðið".

family

Heðin M. Klein is the son of Leivur Klein (1916–1965) and his wife Hanna geb. Kristiansen (1919–2005), both from Gjógv. He is married to Malan Matras Joensen from Klaksvík . The couple have a daughter and live in Tórshavn.
