The Reuben and Edith Hecht Museum ( Hebrew מוּזֵיאוֹן הֶכְט, translit .: Mūzey'ōn Heḵṭ) is an archaeological and art history museum at the University of Haifa , Israel .

The Hecht Museum was donated in 1984 by Reuben Hecht , an Israeli entrepreneur and co-founder of the University of Haifa . The archaeological department of the museum displays finds from the Canaanite period to the end of the Byzantine Empire . The collections mainly show the material culture of the historically geographical region of Israel at the time of the ancient Orient . Hecht was of the opinion that connections between the Jewish people and Eretz Israel can be established through archeology .

The collection items show the history of Israel in chronological order. To be exhibited u. a. Coins, weights, Semitic seals, trinkets, artifacts from excavations on the Temple Mount , Phoenician metalworking, woodworking, stone vessels, glass art and mosaics. The museum also houses the preserved remains of a merchant ship from the 5th century BC. BC, which was found at Ma'agan Micha'el .

The museum's art collection includes paintings from the Barbizon School , Impressionism , Post-Impressionism , and Jewish art from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century. The museum shows paintings by Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot , Édouard Manet , Claude Monet , Camille Pissarro , Vincent van Gogh , Amedeo Modigliani and Max Liebermann .
