The company was last based in Arlington , Virginia before it was acquired by the Macy’s department store chain in 2006 .

The Hecht Company was founded in 1857 by the German immigrant Samuel Hecht (born December 10, 1830 in Langenschwarz , † February 7, 1907 in Baltimore). The Jewish merchant family emigrated from Burghaun in Hesse to America in 1847 .
Also known is the Hecht Company Warehouse in Washington, DC , a building in the style of Streamline Modernism .
