Hedwig von Pfalz-Sulzbach
Marie Hedwig Auguste von Pfalz-Sulzbach (born April 15, 1650 in Sulzbach ; † November 23, 1681 in Hamburg ) was a Countess Palatine of Sulzbach and successively Archduchess of Austria-Tyrol and Duchess of Saxony-Lauenburg by marriage .
Life
Hedwig was a daughter of the Duke and Count Palatine Christian August von Sulzbach (1622–1708) from his marriage to Amalie (1615–1669), daughter of Count Johann VII of Nassau-Siegen .
She married on June 3, 1665 pro cura in the court chapel of Sulzbach Archduke Sigismund Franz of Austria-Tyrol (1630–1665), who renounced his ecclesiastical dignity after the death of his older brother Ferdinand Karl in order to get married. However, the actual consummation of the marriage no longer took place. Sigismund Franz, who wanted to travel to meet his bride on the way to Tyrol , fell seriously ill in Innsbruck and died there twelve days after the marriage.
Her second husband became Duke Julius Franz von Sachsen-Lauenburg (1641-1689) on April 9, 1668 in Sulzbach . Since Hedwig had been guaranteed an annual allowance of 20,000 guilders from her first marriage, Julius Franz compared himself to the imperial court, after which Hedwig received a one-off severance payment.
Hedwig is buried in Schlackenwerth . Her father had a memorial stone erected for her in 1668 on the occasion of her second marriage in the Sulzbach parish church.
