Philipp Wilhelm August von der Pfalz (born November 19, 1668 in Neuburg an der Donau , † April 5, 1693 in Reichstadt , Bohemia ) was Prince of the Palatinate from the Neuburg line of the House of Wittelsbach .

Life

Philipp Wilhelm August was the 13th of a total of 17 children of Elector Philipp Wilhelm von der Pfalz (1615–1690) from his second marriage to Elisabeth Amalie (1635–1709), daughter of Landgrave Georg II of Hesse-Darmstadt .

His eldest sister Eleonore Magdalene had been married to the Roman-German Emperor Leopold I since 1676 , whose brother-in-law he thus became. His brothers Johann Wilhelm and Karl Philipp were Electors of the Palatinate. Another brother Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg was among other things Archbishop and Elector of Mainz. Two other sisters married the kings of Portugal and Spain.

After visiting his brother Franz Ludwig in Breslau and his sister Eleonore Magdalene in Vienna, Philipp Wilhelm August undertook his cavalier tour to Italy in 1689 .

Philipp Wilhelm August embarked on a secular career and entered active military service. He died at the age of 24 in Reichstadt, after having suffered a “vicious fever” for seven days, and was buried in the local parish church. His heart rests in the court church in Neuburg an der Donau .

Marriage and offspring

He married on October 29, 1690 in Raudnitz Anna Maria Franziska (1672–1741), daughter of Duke Julius Franz von Sachsen-Lauenburg . The wedding, which had to be postponed due to the illness and death of Philipp Wilhelm August's father, was carried out "unadorned". From his marriage, Philipp Wilhelm August had the following children:

  • Leopoldine Eleonore Elisabeth (1691–1693), Princess of the Palatinate
  • Maria Anna Karoline (1693–1751), Princess of the Palatinate
⚭ 1719 Prince Ferdinand of Bavaria (1699–1738)
