Hedwigia (German Hedwigsmoose ) is a subcosmopolitan genus of deciduous mosses from the Hedwigiaceae family .
features
Hedwigia species are medium-sized mosses with irregularly branched trunks. The leaves are oval and gradually narrowed to the tip, not wrinkled, hollow and densely arranged like roof tiles. A vein is missing. The cells are rectangular to square and papilose in the middle of the leaf, elongated rectangular to linear and smooth or slightly papilous at the base of the leaf. Leaf-wing cells are square to rectangular. The spore capsule is usually sunk into the bracts, a peristome is missing.

The genus Hedwigia has 4 species. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland there are 2 types:
- Hedwigia ciliata , the eyelash hedwig moss
- Hedwigia stellata , the star hedwig moss
