Hegerberg with summit names

The Hegerberg is a predominantly wooded mountain ridge that lies between the Ybbstal in Lower Austria and the Ennstal in Upper Austria . The approximately 12 kilometer long mountain stretches in a northeast-southwest direction in the communities of Hollenstein an der Ybbs and Weyer .

topography

The highest point is the Lärmerstange 1477  m above sea level. A. , followed by the Hochdreizipf 1466  m to the west . The Saugrabenspitze 1185  m lies three kilometers southwest of the Hochdreizipf .

The Wasserkopf 1442  m , on which a summit cross has stood since 2007, is about 1.5 kilometers east of the Lärmerstange . On the ridge north of the Wasserkopf are the Aubodenkopf and the Haitzmanneck 1363  m and on a side ridge east of it the Kühlhauskopf 1343  m .

By Frenz saddle 1,009  m of Hegerberg is from the southern Voralpe separately. The state border between Upper Austria and Lower Austria runs roughly in a south-north direction from Frenzsattel to Hochdreizipf and from there via Lärmerstange, Wasserkopf and Haitzmanneck to the Weyerer district of Pichl .

use

The Hegerberg is mainly used for forestry, as evidenced by a dense network of forest roads. Hunting also plays an important role, as there are a large number of hunting lodges in the Hegerberg area. Names such as Ziegelauer Alm or Kranzelbaueralm still bear witness to former alpine farms . The Hegerberg is hardly used for tourism. Marked hiking trails only marginally touch the area of the mountain. The sometimes very promising hike from Hollenstein an der Ybbs over the summit ridge to Schönau an der Enns is rarely undertaken, it takes six to seven hours of walking.

geology

Geologically, the Oisbergmulde continues to the west in the Hegerberg , accordingly the geological structure with its hollow structure can also be seen on the Hegerberg. While mainly the main dolomite emerges on the flanks , significantly younger rocks such as limestone from the Jura and rocks from the Schrambach Formation from the Lower Cretaceous appear in the hollow core near the ridge or slightly north of it . Towards the west, the influence of the Weyerer arches is noticeable in a slight rotation of the hollow axis to the south.
