Heidi Melton

Heidi Melton (born September 18, 1981 in Spokane , Washington , USA ) is an American opera singer ( highly dramatic soprano ).

Career

Heidi Melton earned a bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY) and a master's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia . During her time at Curtis, she played the roles of Lady Billows in Albert Herring , Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and the title roles in Handel's Alcina and Richard Strauss ' Ariadne auf Naxos . She made her debut at the San Francisco Opera as Marianne Leitmetzerin in Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier and then appeared as Diane in Christoph Willibald Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride . She also sang the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the world premiere of Philip Glass ' Appomattox . She then made her debut with the Opera Company of Philadelphia as Gertrude in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel and played Mrs. Grose in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw at the San Francisco Opera Center at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville . She made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as 2nd maid in Elektra .

In Europe she made her debut in a Verdi role, namely that of Amelia in Un ballo in maschera at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux .

For several years she has primarily played roles in Strauss and Wagner , such as Chrysothemis and Ada in Die Feen ( Oper Frankfurt ), where she was also cast as Eglantine in Carl Maria von Weber's Euryanthe , Elisabeth in Tannhäuser and Isolde in Tristan and Isolde . In 2016 she made her debut at the Bayreuth Festival as Sieglinde in Die Walküre . She is also cast as Brünnhilde on a CD recording.
