Heiko Andreas von der Gracht (born November 30, 1978 in Aachen ) is a German economist , futurologist and non-fiction author . Von der Gracht has been Professor of Future Research at Steinbeis University Berlin since 2018 .

Life

Von der Gracht was born in Aachen in 1978, grew up in Jülich and attended the Zitadelle high school there (Abitur 1998). Between 1999 and 2004 von der Gracht obtained degrees in industrial engineering from the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences , as an engineer from Fontys University of Applied Sciences Venlo , and a Master of Science degree from the University of Plymouth in England. From 2005 to 2008 he was a research assistant at the EBS University of Economics and Law , where he received his doctorate in 2008 on the subject of futurology.

In 2009 he founded the Center for Future Research and Knowledge Management at the EBS University of Economics and Law, which he developed into an independent university institute in the following years. One focus of the institute was the scientific foundation of futurology methods.

In 2013 von der Gracht switched to KPMG AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft as a futurologist and head of the think tank for future management .

From 2015 to 2017 von der Gracht was a habilitand at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg , where he received his habilitation from the Faculty of Law and Economics in 2017 with the cumulative thesis Fostering Strategic Foresight in Theory and Practice and subsequently worked as a private lecturer was.

Since December 2018 he has held the chair for futurology at the Steinbeis University in Berlin. This is only the second professorship for futurology in Germany. Daniel Barben previously held the VDI endowed professorship for futurology at RWTH Aachen from 2010 to 2013 , but this was not replaced.

In addition to technology foresight, his main research interests include strategic early education and strategic management . In his empirical research he often uses the Delphi method . Based on the pioneering work of futurologist Theodore J. Gordon in the Millennium Project , von der Gracht developed the expert survey software "Real-time Delphi".

In the Handelsblatt Business Economics Ranking 2014, which has analyzed the research performance of more than 2,300 business economists in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland since 2005, von der Gracht achieved place 50 (category: all age groups) and place 32 in the ranking of researchers under 40 years of age.

At the beginning of 2018 he founded the international journal Futures & Foresight Science together with Professors George Wright from the University of Strathclyde and George Cairns from the Queensland University of Technology , of which he has been Associate Editor since then.
