Heiko Gentzel (born January 9, 1960 in Erfurt ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and was a member of the Thuringian state parliament from 1990 to 2014 . During this time he acted inter alia as the SPD parliamentary group chairman and vice-president of the state parliament.

Life and work

Heiko Gentzel is the son of a nurse and a civil engineer. He is divorced and has two children. After attending the Polytechnic High School , Gentzel completed an apprenticeship as an agricultural machine fitter from 1976 to 1978 . After completing basic military service, he worked from 1980 to 1989 as a repair fitter at VEB Kombinat Landtechnik Erfurt and at the Eisenach automobile plant .

politics

In autumn 1989 Gentzel was one of the founders of the SDP in Eisenach . From 1989 to 1990 he sat for the SDP as a member of the round table against abuse of office and corruption in the Eisenach district . In the same district he was district chairman of his party from 1990 to 1993 and deputy chairman of the SPD district parliamentary group. This was followed by the office of SPD district chairman of the independent city of Eisenach from 1996 to 2000, and from 1999 to 2010 he was a member of the Eisenach city council. There he was chairman of the audit committee of the city of Eisenach since 2004.

In 1989 he was a co-founder of the SDP in Eisenach . In 1990 he became a member of the Thuringian Parliament . He began his work in the Thuringian state parliament as a youth policy spokesman for the SPD state parliamentary group. From 1992 to 1999 he was parliamentary manager, from 1999 to 2004 parliamentary group chairman. Since 2004 he has worked as the parliamentary group's domestic policy spokesman. In the constituent session of the 5th Thuringian state parliament on September 29, 2009, he was elected one of four vice-presidents of the state parliament. For the 2014 state election , he decided against running again and took early retirement.

In addition to his parliamentary work, he was also chairman of the August Bebel Society.
