Building history and description

In 1953 the construction of a new branch church in Weißenburg was considered and supported for the first time. The construction of the Holy Cross Church was due to the admission of 3,600 expellees with mostly Catholic faith in the predominantly Evangelical-Lutheran. The city of Weißenburg has become urgently needed. On August 30, 1964 it was consecrated as the second Catholic church in Weißenburg with a kindergarten , youth home, community rooms, parish library and apartments. It comes from the architect Alexander von Branca .

The central building rises above a square base and has a free-standing bell tower and annex buildings . The church is shaped like a Greek cross . Characteristic of the concrete construction are the high walls with Jura limestone facing , which are structured by layers of brick.

Furnishing

  • Baptistery in early Christian style (located outside of the actual church building)
  • Altar in the middle of the church; the rows of benches are grouped on three sides
