The Catholic parish church Heilig Geist is a church building in Hüsten , a district of Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) that characterizes the town.
History and architecture
At the beginning of the 20th century, industrial companies settled in the Ruhr Valley and thus led to a growth in the population; another church building was necessary in Hüsten.
The building was constructed in 1932 according to plans by the architect Heinrich Verfuß. The church stands at right angles to the course of the main street, it is emphasized by open spaces. It is faced with natural stone . The portal building on the street side shows three high, dominant arches; the gable tapers to a point. The walls of the long sides are divided by arched windows and buttresses , so the church gives a traditional overall impression. The church tower is built on the side.
Inside the main elongate space is defined by wall pillars in six yokes divided on the pillars resting ogival Gratgewölbe whose profiles intersect. The aisles on the long sides are separated by columns and pillars. An intermediate yoke with a stepped belt arch forms the transition to the retracted choir , which is raised by six steps. The choir, which is illuminated on both sides, appears as a separate room. The glazing was destroyed in World War II and renewed by Walter Klocke . Hans Kaiser equipped the front yoke and the tower chapel with concrete glazing. To protect against vandalism, the church is blocked off by bars behind the entrance.
Furnishing
- The figures have been preserved from the original side altars made by the sculptor Bernhard Hartmann in 1936.
- The liturgical furnishings are the work of Josef Rikus .
- The baptismal font has been converted into an altar, if not enough visitors take part, the mass is celebrated from here.
organ
The organ was installed in 1958 by the organ builder Anton Feith . It has 32 registers and 2278 pipes , which are distributed over three manuals and the pedal . It is equipped with a cylinder, electric action, cone chest, normal coupling and tutti .
