The holy Regina , French. Pure, Régine or Réjane , (* around 271 in Alise-Sainte-Reine , France ; † around 286 in Autun , France) is an early Christian martyr .

Little is known about the life of St. Regina. The sources contain contradicting information about the year of death. Some call the year 286, while others, such as the Burgundian adaptation of the story of Margaret of Antioch , speak of 251.

Regina's mother died in childbirth. Regina was raised by a Christian wet nurse who also had her baptized . Her father was a Romanized pagan named Clement who disowned Regina when she adopted the Christian faith. Regina became a shepherdess and lived as a consecrated virgin and hermit . Because she refused to break her vow of celibacy for the sake of the kingdom of heaven and to marry the Roman proconsul Olybrius , the latter had her incarcerated and tortured. At the age of only 15, Regina was beheaded under the rule of Emperor Maximian (286–305 AD).

The relics Regina were in the 864 Abbey of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain brought Flavigny became a place of pilgrimage . Regina has been venerated there as a saint since the 7th century . Further relics are set into the altar of the parish church consecrated to her in Drensteinfurt , Westphalia .

Saint Regina is the patron saint of carpenters and is invoked against scabies, mange and other diseases. St. Regina as a virgin, surrounded by grazing sheep, with a cross on which a dove sits and the attributes of martyrdom - the crown, the sword, a cauldron or on fire. Her feast day is September 7th .
