history

The association was founded on November 6, 1993 at Elgersburg Castle . The initial spark for the founding of the association was the Ilmenau conference Heimat Thuringia - Cultural Identity in Transition in the spring of 1993. With the support of the Free State of Thuringia, the first office in the Elgersburg municipal administration could soon start working. Shortly thereafter, the Heimatbund Thuringia was accepted into the German Heimatbund, today the Bund Heimat und Umwelt , or BHU for short . Behind it, organized in 18 regional associations, are half a million members of civic and local associations.

In 1998 the office moved to Schloss Elgersburg. The business premises have been in Weimar since February 2008. In November 2013 the Heimatbund Thüringen eV celebrated its 20th anniversary in the Kaisersaal in Erfurt together with many of its supporters and cooperation partners . In the summer of 2018 there were some changes in the board that resulted in a rejuvenation overall. During the 25th anniversary event in November 2018 in the Jenaer Paradiescafé, the tasks and goals were evaluated and reconstituted with partners. The Heimatbund also received the ESD seal for its work .
