The Heimathaus Twist is a nationally renowned cultural center in the Emsland municipality Twist .

The Heimathaus has three buildings in traditional Emsland construction. For the craftsman's house in half-timbered and the second home in traditional brick construction, wood was used that comes from an old farmhouse or an old hallway . A demolished half-timbered house from Leverermeer was rebuilt in the center of Twists in the late 1980s. The third building is a bakery , inaugurated in 2003 , in which bread can be baked in a traditional way in a wood oven.

Culture

Events have been held regularly at Heimathaus Twist since 1990, including readings , classical music , folk and jazz . However, it was mainly its blues concerts that made the home house Twist known nationwide. Appearances by well-known bands and musicians (including world stars such as Albert Hammond and Maggie Reilly , Chris Farlowe , Ten Years After , John Lee Hooker Jr. and the Hamburg Blues Band ) contributed to the reputation of a “blues mecca on the moor” . Due to the location close to the border, many Dutch visitors are part of the regular audience and even visitors from London or Nice travel to the more important events.

Several live CDs have already been made at concerts, including by the Blues Company , Ten Years After and Lefthand Freddy and the Aces . Recordings are often broadcast by national broadcasters such as Deutschlandfunk and Deutschlandradio Kultur . Heimathaus Twist is also the initiator and organizer of the series of events Blues at Schools with the band BB & the Blues Shacks , about which the press and N3 reported in detail.

It is remarkable, and in view of the ranking of the events, that the Twist home house is run solely by volunteers from the local home association Twist eV . This association also organizes bike tours to explore the region, organizes events for children and organizes a multi-day festival every two years in the circus tent at Heimathaus.

Others

The craftsman's house, built as a half-timbered building , has been used by the Twist community for civil weddings for several years.
