Heinhard Steiger

Heinhard Steiger (born June 11, 1933 in Ratibor ; † July 28, 2019 ) was a German legal scholar . From 1971 to 2001 he held the chair for public law , law of international organizations, international law , European law , environmental law and history of international law at the University of Giessen .

Life

Heinhard Steiger was born in Ratibor in 1933. From 1953 to 1957 he studied in Freiburg im Breisgau , Paris and Münster . This was followed by a master’s degree at Harvard University in 1958/59 . He then received his doctorate in Münster in 1963 with the text Statehood and Supranationalism . This was followed in 1970 by his habilitation, also in Münster with Hans Ulrich Scupin, on the organizational basis of the parliamentary system of government . In 1971 he worked as a lecturer and from 1972 as a scientific adviser.

In 1975, Steiger was appointed full professor at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen to the chair for public law, law of international organizations, international law, European law, environmental law and the history of international law, which he held until his retirement in 2001. Steiger was visiting professor at the Universities of Toulouse and Limoges .
