Otto Kimminich

Otto Kimminich (* 1. April 1932 in Niklasdorf , Czechoslovakia ; † 12. August 1997 in Regensburg ) was a German national and international law . He taught at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Regensburg .

Life

After the death of his father in 1939, Kimminich grew up as a half-orphan . After the end of the Second World War he had to leave high school at the age of 13 and learned the profession of confectioner . As part of the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia , Kimminich and his family came to Erlangen , where he passed his Abitur .

He completed his studies in law and economics at the Universities of Erlangen , Würzburg and Charlottesville, Virginia (USA), where he received a Fulbright scholarship as a Master of Arts in Economics (1954). In 1957 he was awarded a Dr. jur. utr. PhD. He passed the second state examination in law in 1959.

After that was Kimminich Government in the government of Lower Franconia and introduced his part-time and geographically in refugee law, habilitation ( The international legal status of refugees done). In 1961 he completed his habilitation with Hermann Raschhofer at the University of Würzburg and began as a private lecturer . In 1963 he was offered a professorship for international law and constitutional law at the University of Bochum . In 1967 he took over the chair for public law , in particular international law, constitutional law and politics , at the newly established University of Regensburg , which he held until his death. He turned down various calls at the universities of Kiel (1971), Würzburg (1974), Münster (1975) and Innsbruck (1981).

Kimminich worked closely with the Association of Displaced Persons (BdV) and was chairman of its 12-member council of experts until his death. He had close contacts with the Witikobund and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), and he also wrote for the magazine Mut . He was one of the founding members of the International Institute for Nationality Law and Regionalism (INTEREG) and was a member of the Collegium Carolinum . Kimminich was considered a Catholic conservative .

Kimminich was a member of the Association of German Constitutional Law Teachers and President of the Humanities Class of the Sudeten German Academy of Sciences and Arts . He was co-editor of the following journals: Wissenschaftsrecht , Archiv des Völkerrechts and magazine for immigration law and immigration policy as well as an employee of the Bonn Commentary on the Basic Law . He was also President of the German Nansen Society and the Otto Benecke Foundation .

He has published over 100 books and 700 articles. He also translated sociological and political works from English.

Kimminich was buried in 1997 in the Trinity Mountain Cemetery in Regensburg .
