Gilbert Gornig

Gilbert Hanno Gornig (* 9. October 1950 in Deggendorf ) is a German national and international law .

Life

After finishing school at the Comenius-Gymnasium in Deggendorf, the town of his birth, Gornig studied law and political science in Regensburg and Würzburg . He later completed his legal clerkship in the higher regional court district of Nuremberg. After completing the second state examination in law, he did his doctorate in 1984 with Dieter Blumenwitz at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . In 1986 he completed his habilitation and received the venia legendi in public law, international law and foreign public law.

After substituting professorships at the universities in Mainz, Bayreuth and Göttingen, he was appointed to the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen in 1989 . There he was elected director of the Institute for International Law in 1990 and dean in 1994/95. In April 1995 he moved to the Philipps University of Marburg . There Gornig held the chair for public law, international and European law and acted both as managing director of the institute for public law and from October 2006 to 2012 as dean of the law department. Until June 2004, Gornig worked as a judge at the Hessian Administrative Court in Kassel .

Gornig was visiting professor at Harbin University of Science and Technology, Harbin , at Wuhan University, Wuhan, at the University of Finance & Economics, Nanjing, and at Hohai University, Nanjing (all People's Republic of China ), at the National Technical University of Kaohsiung I (Taiwan) and at the Lucian Blaga University Sibiu ( Romania ).

He has published over 500 publications in ten different languages ​​in the field of constitutional, administrative, international and European law. His focus is on international law . He has been retired since 2016.

Gilbert Gornig founded the Marburg Legal Society and was elected its chairman in 2009. He also founded the Center for Human Rights and Good Governance at Ruaha University College, Iringa (Tanzania). In 2009 he became President of the Danzig Natural Research Society. From 2000 to 2003 Gornig was director of the Institute for German Research of the Göttingen Working Group, eV He is on the board of the Göttingen Working Group and has been its President since April 2014. He is also co-founder and vice-president of the Marburg Society for Scientific Cooperation with Arab States. eV and on the board of the Marburg learned society.
