Stephan Hobe

Stephan Hobe (born December 11, 1957 in Bremen ) is a German law scholar and university professor .

Life

Hobe studied at the universities of Munich , Freiburg and Göttingen , where he passed the first state examination in 1984. In 1985 he went to McGill University in Montreal and worked at the Institute of Air and Space Law with the air and space law . In 1987, he obtained a Master of Laws degree in Montreal . In 1988 he passed the second state examination in Kiel and received his doctorate in 1992 from the University of Kiel with the thesis "The legal framework for the economic use of space".

From 1990 to 1992 he worked at the German Space Agency in Bonn and then at the Walther Schücking Institute for International Law in Kiel. There he completed his habilitation in 1996 on the subject of “The open constitutional state between sovereignty and interdependence ”.

In 1997 he was appointed professor for public law , international law and European law at the University of Cologne , where he held the Jean Monnet chair from 1998. Since 2001 he has been head of the Cologne Institute for Air and Space Law . He holds the chair for international law, European law, European and international business law.

Hobe is a member of the International Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics (IAAA), a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Space Law and the European Center for Space Law. He is rapporteur for the Space Committee of the International Law Association (ILA), board member of the German Association for International Law , member of the Commission on Transport and Logistics of the International Chamber of Commerce , member of the European Air Law Association, member of the council of the German Society for International Law and member of the Academie de l'Air de l'Espace . In 2016 he was accepted as a full member of the Academia Europaea . In 2018 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Sofia .
